In the summer of 1947, three Boy Scout troops in the Sacramento area jointly established Camp O-Ki-Hi as the center of their scouting related activities. Located near Sierra City on Highway 49 (Sierra County) and within the Lakes Basin Recreation Area (Plumas and Sierra National Forests), Camp O-Ki-Hi is surrounded by forests, lakes, and the majestic Sierra Buttes. Enjoyed during every summer and winter by hundreds of scouting’s youth, both boys and girls aged 11-18, from throughout the Sacramento area and Sierra Nevada foothills as well as worldwide, camp continues its outdoor scouting education and activities.
Camp O-Ki-Hi is owned and operated by Troop 8, Troop 99, Troop 250, Venture Crew 225 and under the direction of a 100% volunteer run committee. During the summer, each troop invites several "guest" troops to join them for a unique and exciting adventure in the Sierra Buttes just as they have been doing for 70 years.
We are unique in that there are no paid employees or administrators of any kind, just dedicated adult volunteers and returning camp alumni serving the various roles of camp director, program director, cook, merit badge counselors, etc. All money collected from the scouts for their attendance goes to meals and expenses directly associated with daily camp activities or to facility maintenance costs.
We created this website to provide the scouting community with information about our camp and hope that you will consider making Camp O-Ki-Hi your new summer camping destination.
